UK and EEC regulators recommend a depth of 270mm for loft insulation to ensure that your house will block heat loss through the loft area as well as heat gain and reduce energy consumption and your carbon footprint accordingly.
You may be entitled to a grant to help insulate your loft or, alternatively if you are not entitled to a grant, you can get a substantial discount toward the costs of insulating your loft. Insulating your loft is not expensive and a standard 270mm (approximately 10.5 inches) layer could save as much as £150 a year on fuel bills and reduce CO2 emissions by around 800kg a year.
The loft will require a survey prior to the installation of any loft insulation. This will determine the suitability of the property for insulation measures. This loft survey by Alva Surveyors typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes and you are not obliged to go ahead afterwards.
ALL home owner/occupiers and private tenants are now eligible for grant funding of 50% - 100% towards loft insulation. If you are NOT eligible for the FULL 100% loft insulation grant, you can still apply for a partial grant of 50-70% and, under certain circumstances, possibly more. Please contact us for more details.
